Field Service Engineer – Home Heating Systems (Oil & Gas)

Are you an experienced Heating Engineer looking for your next challenge?
We are looking for an experienced and dedicated Field Service Engineer to join our team, providing technical support, servicing, commissioning, surveying and repair services across the Hertfordshire area.
IMPORTANT: Candidates MUST have proven professional experience working with domestic home heating systems, specifically Oil-Fired or Gas heating systems. This is an essential requirement for the role. Candidates without hands-on experience in domestic oil or gas heating systems will not be considered.
You will be joining an experienced technical team supporting customers, installers and engineers across a range of heating technologies. Full training will be provided on our wider product range, including air source heat pumps, biomass, solar thermal, smart controls and unvented cylinders.
The Role
As a Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for attending customer sites, carrying out warranty repairs, commissioning and surveying products, and providing technical advice and support to customers, installers and fellow engineers.
The role will involve a substantial amount of daily driving, with overnight stays required from time to time.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend customer sites to diagnose and repair products covered by the manufacturer's warranty.
- Carry out site surveys, installations and commissioning of heating products when required.
- Provide technical advice and support to customers, installers and commissioning engineers.
- Assist with the diagnosis and resolution of technical and installation issues.
- Deliver a high level of customer service and promote customer satisfaction throughout the business.
- Manage your own diary effectively, taking into account local and logistical requirements.
- Complete technical administration, reports and correspondence accurately and promptly
- Identify recurring technical and service issues and report trends or concerns to the Field Service Manager.
- Carry out on-site and in-house training and assessments when required.
- Identify potential sales opportunities and refer appropriate leads to the Area Sales Manager.
- Recommend relevant training for engineers or installers where knowledge or competency gaps are identified.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of current legislation, regulations and best practice relating to domestic heating systems.
- Keep up to date with new products, technologies and internal developments.
- Ensure all professional qualifications and certifications remain current.
- Maintain and correctly use company tools, equipment and vehicles.
- Comply fully with company Health & Safety procedures and relevant legislation.
- Represent the company professionally at all times and escalate any matters of concern or potential reputational risk to the Field Service Manager.
Essential Experience & Qualifications
You MUST have:
- Proven hands-on experience working with domestic home heating systems.
- Professional experience specifically with Oil-Fired or Gas heating systems.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Experience servicing, repairing, commissioning or installing domestic heating appliances.
- The ability to work independently and manage your own workload and diary.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- A full UK driving licence.
- A professional approach to working with customers, installers and other engineers.
