Forwarding Operator – Road Freight

About the Role:
As a Forwarding Operator, you’ll be responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing domestic and international road shipments from start to finish. You’ll negotiate rates, manage hauliers, ensure compliance with customs and transport regulations, and keep customers fully informed throughout the process.
This is a hands-on operational role where no two days are the same — ideal for someone who enjoys variety and takes ownership of their work.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Duties
- Secure competitive rates by sourcing and negotiating with hauliers and subcontractors.
- Arrange and manage road freight movements across the UK and Europe.
- Monitor shipments proactively and resolve issues before they impact the customer.
- Provide timely updates, quotations, and support as the main point of contact.
- Identify trends and opportunities to support business growth.
Administration
- Obtain and distribute all required customs and transport documentation.
- Ensure files are accurately costed, referenced, and invoiced within deadlines.
- Maintain strong working relationships with internal teams and external partners.
- Carry out general administrative tasks as required.
Team & Communication
- Work collaboratively to maintain excellent customer service standards.
- Support preparation for haulier performance reviews.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all operational instructions meet transport, customs, and environmental regulations.
- Report issues or risks that could affect service or operations.
- Promote a safe working environment and report hazards promptly.
Projects & Additional Duties
- Support ongoing projects and contribute to expanding the current workload.
- Undertake any additional tasks reasonably requested by management.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Experience in European road transport operations.
- At least 1 year working in a busy transport or freight forwarding environment.
- Strong understanding of customs processes and industry regulations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritise effectively in a fast‑moving environment.
- A proactive, positive attitude with a commitment to delivering outstanding service.
Desirable
- Experience using Transport Management Systems (TMS).
- Knowledge of TACO rules, Cabotage, and Mobility Package regulations.
- Full UK driving licence.
